Black & Grey

The technique of Black & Grey, or Greywash, originating in the 1960’s is a process of tattooing by watering down, or “washing” the black down into varying values of black. These values turn grey after healing, hence, black and grey. Clients refer to this technique as “Black & White”, the main reason for this is because of the use of skin as “lighted” area of the objects in the design. I’m not a fan of calling it this because not all B&G tattoos are on white people. Let alone, the original terminology for this technique is Grey Wash and then later Black & Grey.
